Remote learning in Design Technology

As part of their remote learning, Year 9 students have been working on a design challenge where they had to design a home for the future considering how it could be environmentally friendly and also support user wellbeing. Students have created some fantastic responses, samples of Jamie Harrison and Josh Aviston’s work are shown below. Well done Year 9 – keep up the fantastic efforts at home.

Update for Y10

The proposed date of 1 June is still an ambition at this point and is dependent on 5 key health measures being met; this date could be delayed with as little as 48 hours notice. It is essential that all appropriate and reasonable health and safety measures are in place and student and staff welfare and wellbeing will remain the priority.

Update for Y12

As indicated in the letter from Simon Taylor, the government has announced that schools should start to plan for a phased reopening. We are awaiting secondary school guidance to support us in determining how we should engage with students in Year 10 and Year 12. I will be in touch with you once these details are known.

Update from Mr Simon Taylor, CEO

The Learning Trust is committed to support all of our schools to expand provision, in line with the government’s aspirations and in the safest way possible. Please be assured that the health and wellbeing of our pupils and our staff is our highest priority.

Change in Financial Circumstances

We would encourage families to check their eligibility for FSM if their financial circumstances have changed. Many parents feel there is a stigma attached to claiming FSM, but we can assure you that this is not the case and students in receipt of FSM are treated with discretion. During the government lockdown students are still able to receive their allocation of FSM in the form of vouchers that can be redeemed for groceries at a range of supermarkets.

Y9 Art Graphics Update

As a department, we want to continue to support our young people by providing work to be completed at home. To do this, we have set up a Google classroom and invited your child to join. From Monday 1 June, we will be providing a home learning package which students will be able to access from this classroom.

As a Year 11 student/family, it is likely that, in what is a key transition year, you feel somewhat anxious and frustrated about the future. We do understand this, and will continue to do our utmost to support each and everyone of our students.
