King Edward’s Inspires… Year 11 and Year 12

DSC_0735 croppedKing Edward’s was buzzing on the evening of November 6 with students and parents from Years 11 and 12, who were attending the first annual King Edward’s Inspires… careers event.

They came to see over 45 employers, education establishments and training providers including; Oxford and Cambridge Universities, local universities and FE colleges, Deliotte, Arup, the NHS, Carillion and Northern Powergrid plus a whole host of other sectors were represented. The event was a huge success for the delegates, students and parents.

We are proud to have been able to provide this unique and invaluable opportunity for our students and parents to speak directly to employers about their future plans.

Well over 300 students, plus their parents/carers attended the event and were all very positive about the “abundance of information” available on the evening. A number of parents commented on the “variety and insight” of organisations available and the enthusiasm of the delegates. One parent commented “Really enjoyed it [the event] and thought there was a great atmosphere”. One parent, who had children in both Year 11 and Year 12 stated “As a mum I felt that they were individually supported [for their very different aspirations]”.

The links with our alumni community continue to grow and the event was well supported from a number of former students. The alumni were able to discuss their chosen routes and careers paths from King Edward’s and beyond; these ranged from medicine to accountancy, to sports science, the performing arts and public relations.A number of our alumni commented on what a great idea the event was and how they would have benefitted from something similar when they were at King Edward’s. What is even more pleasing is that all of them are happy to attend future events, as they were impressed by the responses of our students and their parents/carers.

The delegates in attendance unanimously praised the students and their thoughtful and considered questions about their future. Delegates engaged and enthused about the event on twitter using the #KEVIinspires. The organisations represented at the event were:
