Last week KEVI was host to various STEM activities throughout the Lower School.
Here are some of the highlights.
Beat the Flood
All of Year 9 worked great as teams earning KEVI 10 credits designing, constructing and testing model flood resistant houses. They were filmed by KEVI TV. Excellent work from everyone!
Here are the winning designs from the year group.
Thanks to Michael, our groundsman for help with this activity.
Antibiotics
Some of Year 9 also attended a talk on antibiotics and DNA led by Rhys Wilson, our local STEM coordinator.
Science and Engineering Quiz
Congratulations to winners of this week quiz. Winners will be announced during Rewards Assemblies this week!
Renewable Energy
Our own KEVI alumni, Jonathan Hughes was kind enough to give up his time to talk with Year 9 students about renewable energy resources as part of their GCSE work on generating electricity.
Solar Eclipse
The solar eclipse this week was observed safely by KEVI Space team using a special telescope and screen.
GPS Activity
Some of Year 10 took part in an activity about the physics and maths behind GPS as well as their current applications. This was run by Tom Bramald from Newcastle University Geoscience Department along with his colleague Stuart. Tom is also KEVI alumni.
STEM Careers
Year 11 had an excellent careers assembly delivered by Tom from Newcastle University.
STEM careers displays were put up at both Year 10 Parent’s Evenings too.
